What is most popular? Many people prefer a set with the lowest tone starting on G3 or A3. These notes are popular for their grounding effect. For a deeper tone, consider a set of crystal singing bowls with the lowest tone ranging from C3 to F#3.
Here is something to consider. Many people believe you need a 7-note chakra set of crystal singing bowls (C major scale minus the top note), but this was a marketing strategy from a store selling crystal singing bowls in the 1980s. Consider this: how coincidental is it that the notes from the simplest Western scale (among over 60 major and minor scales) using Equal Temperament (developed in the 1500s) just happen to match the chakras described in the Vedas (ancient Hindu texts from between 1500 BC and 500 BC)? This alignment is far too coincidental and questionable.
